My grandmother has had trouble getting along with my grandfather because he is stubborn as a mule[=Ganko-ittetsu].

Meaning :
To come within a hair's breadth of something.
To be in imminent danger/to barely avoid a critical situation.
Example:
We had an unexpected snowfall and my car went into a slide on the snow. I came within a hair's breadth of[=Kiki-ippatsu] bumping into the guardrail.

Meaning :
To be a man of his word.
To behave in consonance with one's words.
To act on what one says.
Example:
Be a man of your word[=Gengo-icchi], or you can't lead your subordinates.
