Kitagawa Utamaro

Kanji "Man" though these are kanji that indicates the woman is included.
All kanji here is a noun with an adjective role.

For instance, kanji "男勝り[Otoko masari]".
Otoko masari is a noun.

And, the basic difference of English and Japanese is that the plural form hardly exists in a Japanese noun.
But, there is sometimes a scene for which the noun of the plural form is used.
If it is possible, could you read?

In the plural form of almost all the person nouns, "たち/達[tachi]" is put on the ending of a word.
Therefore, the plural form of word "女[onna]" is "女たち/女達[onna tachi]", and the plural form of word "男[otoko]" is "男たち/男達[otoko tachi]"

The basic Japanese word for woman is "女[Onna]".
Moreover, "Onna" in a polite expression is "女性[Josei]".

<Takarazuka Revue>:
The Takarazuka Revue (宝塚歌劇団;Takarazuka Kagekidan) is a Japanese all-female musical theater troupe based in Takarazuka, Hyo-go Prefecture, Japan.

Women play all roles in lavish, Broadway-style productions of Western-style musicals, and sometimes stories adapted from 少女マンガ[shoujo manga] (Girls' comics) and Japanese folktales.

<Actors of Takarazuka>:
So while Takarazuka "reinforces the status quo and sublimates women's desires through its dreamy narratives, there remains some possibility that certain spectators find it empowering simply to watch women play men."

Takarasienne plays, like "ベルサイユのばら[berusaiyu no bara] (The Rose of Versailles)", feature androgynous characters.

The 男役[otokoyaku] represents the woman's idealized man without the roughness or need to dominate, the "perfect" man who can not be found in the real world.

It is these male-roles that offer an escape from the strict, gender-bound real roles lauded in Japanese society.
