Hello, I have tried to translate my date of birth into japanese and was wondering if you could tell me if it is correct, it is so difficult finding help with this.
My date of birth is 28th August 1986 and I have translated this as, Showa roku juu iti nen hachigatsu ni juu hachi nichi, and the text as 昭和六十一年八月二十八日 I hope this is right it took me a lot of time to find it, thank you so much.

I am an English > Spanish translator, and I have a very unusual requirement: I need to translate the following Zen Proverb into Japanese:

"Be master of mind rather than mastered by mind"

It will be painted as a mural painting in a Karate school in my city. I have no knowledge of Japanese, but I understand that this proverb can be written in Kanji symbols, so I think you are the right person to consult, since this school will receive several Japanese guests in the following months.

I will be very grateful for your suggestions about this unusual requirement.

There are many sites on Japan that "copy and paste" their information from other web pages. Your site is unique in that you explain concepts in you own words, even if you must use difficult English.

I found your site because I needed a Katagana chart.
But I ended up staying for hours going through all the pages. I forgot about the Katagana chart. I am easily distracted from studying Katakana. haha.

I am having a memorial tattoo done for a friend that recently died of cancer. He loved karate and trying to live by the code of the samurai. I have lots of japanese artwork to work with but i am finding it hard to find Kanji i can trust until i found your site. I know you are still learning english but any help you could give me would be wonderful. I am planning on the having the kanji horizontally on my leg. The five Kanjis i am am looking for are
- Compassion
- Idol
- Commander
- Statuesque
- Guardian

Thank you so much for responding so quickly! To answer your questions. I was hoping there would be a one symbol Kanji for each word, An example I found on your site would be "jo" or "jyo" is perfect for compassion. But, if this is not possible to do that with all five words, i would like something that combines the meaning of the five words. Something with 6 symbols or less would be best.
Other meanings for the words, each word was chosen by a different member of his family.

Compassion (chose by his mother)- is "jo" or "jyo" which i have already got from your wonderful site so we don't need to worry about that one.

Idol (chose by his little brother)- someone you want to be, you look up to them

Statuesque (chose by his father) - in proportion, grace and dignity, or stately, like a statue

Commander (chose by his wife)- Always stepping up to take charge, staying calm in tough situations, making sure everyone is feeling safe.

Guardian (chose by myself)- Protector, watches over you.

Now to tell you what kind of friend he was, he was my best friend for 20 years. We were like brothers, I loved him very much and miss him a lot. We always looked out for each other even as adults.

Hello, I have been a big fan of your work for quite some time. I absolutely love everything about Japan, and the Japanese Culture, and your site has helped to influence my growing love. I have noticed that people are requesting translations of you for tattoos. I was wondering if you could translate these two phrases into Japanses Kanji for me.
"I Will Always Love You"
"Forever In My Heart"
I have been trying to self translate these phrases for quite some time, but i have been unsuccessful. Both phrases carry some sentimental weight behind them, and i would appreciate it if your Kanji translation could be as close as possible to the phrase. If not, I understand.
